Kinsey Wohlers, LISW, IADC

Based in our North Liberty office.

Pronouns: she/they

Introduction

People are so much more than their behaviors. Kinsey Wohlers has a passion for helping people find their path to whole health by working through the underlying issues that may lead to coping behaviors that don’t serve them well.

In addition to being a certified mental health provider, Kinsey is a certified alcohol and drug counselor and has experience working with individuals in residential treatment facilities. This expertise is helpful to people working through behaviors they would like to improve or change, opening the door to address any mental health issues that may be triggering behaviors.

Clinical Interests

The underlying issues Kinsey helps clients with include mood disorders—anxiety, depression, and others—as well as personality disorders like borderline personality disorder and other conditions that can significantly affect how a person experiences the world.

The value at the center of everything that Kinsey does is radical acceptance of where each person is. In this spirit, she offers sex worker-friendly, kink-friendly, and polyamory-friendly counseling. She welcomes LGBTQIA clients, clients of any religious or non-religious background, and clients who may feel that society views them as being outside the bounds of cultural norms.

“I do not want mental health symptoms to keep anyone who is in need from having access to mental healthcare. My work with clients often begins with motivational interviewing, which is designed to help people clarify what they want to work on and then together we figure out how to do so. My counseling approaches are designed specifically for each person and can draw on dialectical behavior therapy (DBT), internal family systems, mindfulness, and other approaches. My goal is always to support clients in their efforts to be the best versions of themselves that they can be.”

Personal Interests

"I tend to dabble in a lot of things. I love video games, crochet, true crime, do-it-yourself projects at home, and my cat, Mac."
