My name is Kayla Simmons, and I am currently pursuing a master’s degree in Clinical Mental Health Counseling. My passion for mental health counseling has been shaped by my lived experiences, education, and desire to help others feel heard, supported, and understood. As a developing counselor, I value a collaborative, authentic, and nonjudgmental approach. I do not view myself as the expert on my others' lives. Instead, I see my role as a guide who works alongside others to help them identify their strengths, navigate challenges, reach their goals, and facilitate meaningful growth. Ultimately, my goal as a counselor is to create a safe space where individuals feel heard, valued, and supported. I hope to help others recognize that they do not have to navigate their mental health journey alone.
My clinical interests include working with children, adolescents and adults, particularly those who have experienced trauma, adversity; or difficult life experiences. I am especially interested in understanding how trauma can impact individuals across different stages of development and how these experiences may influence their emotions, behaviors, relationships, and overall well-being. I hope to help clients build confidence, develop healthy coping strategies, recognize their strengths, and feel empowered in their growth. I am also passionate about working with underserved populations and individuals who may experience barriers to accessing mental health resources. Through a compassionate, collaborative, and nonjudgmental approach, I hope to create a safe environment where clients feel heard, understood, and supported.
I also have a strong interest in using evidence-based approaches while recognizing that counseling is not a one-size-fits-all process. I believe it is important to consider each individual’s unique experiences, needs, strengths, and goals when determining which approaches and interventions may be most helpful. At the core of my clinical interests is the belief that every individual has the ability to grow and create meaningful change in their life. My role is to provide support, guidance, and a safe environment that helps clients recognize their potential and take steps toward their goals.
