Marielle Cramer is currently studying at the University of Iowa in the Masters of Social Work (MSW) program, with a focus on clinical social work practice. She arrived as a social work student having worked in human services for over a decade. Her previous experience was primarily working with individual adults as they navigate their mental and physical health needs, and maintain independence in their homes.
Marielle's interest in pursuing a career as a clinical social worker stems from her own experiences and background, paired with the core belief that communities function best when everyone is able to show up as their authentic selves. Her goal is to walk alongside clients, serving as an unwavering advocate without all of the “let’s just think positive!” talk. This is done by empowering clients to be their own narrators, while she is there to provide encouragement and reminders, joy and compassion, and safety as progress is made towards desired change. Marielle understands that starting therapy is often the hardest part of therapy because it requires initiating vulnurability. Knowing this, Marielle aims to build a strong rapport that is genuine and at the pace of each client.
Influenced by strengths based approaches and client centered care, Marielle uses techniques and strategies commonly found in CBT, ACT, and DBT. She is interested in working teenagers and adults, and proudly supports the LGBTQ2S+ and the neurodivergent communities. Marielle is available to work with clients as they navigate past trauma; explore disruptive mood patterns; develop coping skills to help manage anxiety and fear; and identify strategies to build a stronger sense of self in a world that feels overly critical.
