Stacy Grooms, T-LMFT

Based in our North Liberty office.

Introduction

“I offer an environment that is inclusive, safe, and nonjudgmental. I try to help my clients find a calmer sense of self―a better sense of who they are. I love working with all kinds of people, especially couples, families, and teenagers. I want clients to not be afraid of the therapy process. What could it hurt? You are the one to decide how deep you want to go.”

Clinical Interests

Stacy is excited to work with couples and families as well as individual adults and teens, particularly couples with fidelity and communication issues; families in times of turmoil; and individuals with panic disorders, bipolar disorder, anxiety, and/or depression. Her therapeutic approaches include Dialectic Behavioral Therapy (DBT), narrative, solution-focused, and mindfulness-based approaches.

“With couples, communication is always a focus. When working with couples, I might notice something they weren’t aware of and once we can talk about it, things start clicking. Eventually, they are really listening to each other and then honest and open communication can happen. Each person can express their needs and wants and be heard by the other.

When working with teenagers, I want to be that fixture they can depend on. Often, they desperately need one person in their corner who will be there, regardless of what they tell me, with no strings attached.

Personal Interests

I am a Troop Leader for Girl Scouts and a facilitator for the rock wall and zipline at Camp Liberty Summer Camp. Hiking the trails at Squire Point is the perfect distance for my family. We play a lot of board games with our kids. I also enjoy yoga, archery, and re-reading Harry Potter books. I started getting tattoos when I turned 18 and now have 33!”
